Duke LAX Scandal

More and more I am thinking that these guys are innocent. I had originally thought that 3 of the accused rapists (before they went to jail) were guilty. I felt so bad for that girl. But now after reading the Newsweek article I have switched sides and think that the two men they have in custody are innocent. If you have been following the case and read the cover story in Newsweek you will see evidence from the defense that shows that these two men could not have had time to rape the woman. What do YOU think about the case? More coming later on today!

I'm not so certain. It would appear one of them has been in trouble before (gay bashing I think).....which would lead me to believe that he feels he can get away with just about anything....as the privilaged often do.....

mark, I don't think he was purposely gay bashing just cursing at a guy using the word faggot as an insult, and a lot of guys fight and they're not rapists

I live in Durham. As a matter of fact, I live around the block from the house where the 3 LAX captains lived. I too thought, man, they did it, they got drunk and went too far. But as you, I've come to the realization that things are not adding up. The alleged victim identified these guys (and an unnamed 3rd team member) from a series of photos that included only Duke LAX players - in other words - any player could have been selected. It seems that there is evidence indicating that neither of these 2 guys where at the party during the time the victims alleges she was raped. Photographs appear to back the LAX players. While the Durham DA believes the rape occured, certain facts appear to be puzzling at best. It has been reported that the alleged victim has file a police report alledging involving 3 black men. Her father, but not her mother, has stated in newspaper reports that nothing happened to her. She has also filed a police report accusing her ex-husband of trying to kill her, but she did not show up during initial hearings. So, the the rape happen? US Dept of Justice has reported that 1 out of 20 rapes that are reported to the police are false. I think this may be that one time when nothing happened.

As for the event in DC chargin Finnerty with simple assault, Stephenaie Bragg Lee, a spoksperson for the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, said the circumstances didn't warrant hate-crime status. "It was an argument between two young guys who were sizing each other up", she said. "Both sides had an equal portion of the discussion, so we felt it wasn't specifically a hate crime, so we waived the option here." While he has not denied a fight occured, it was not a hate crime (Washington Post).

Rape is a serious and despicable crime and women who have been raped suffer emotionally and physically long after the rape occured. However, when these charges are found to be untrue, I feel that these guys' lives will be irrepealable damaged.
